Salary:   $1500 (1099 - Contractor for NEXUS Summer Program, llc)

Supervisor: Senior Peer Leader (SPL)

Job Description:  The Peer Leader (PL) is responsible for the supervision, safety, and well being of the summer program participants. The PL helps create a community where the participants can succeed socially and academically. The PL informs students of the University’s rules and expectations and works to ensure that these guidelines are followed. While students are in class, PL commitments include attendance at daily meetings, planning and preparing student activities and events, and assisting with any residential program needs that arise. The PL is also responsible for conducting the daily and weekend activities and events for students.

Work Schedule and Physical Requirements

PLs are expected to participate in pre-program training on-campus for up to 3 days prior to the participants’ arrival. PLs work seven days per week. PL working hours are primarily the hours students are not in class; other commitments include the morning meeting time, class visits, and additional time for planning and preparation of activities.  PL’s must be available to students 24 hours each day.  PLs work weekends and have one day off per 2-week session (not to be taken on a weekend), to be scheduled by the Senior Peer Leader. Because PLs have responsibilities during the day as well as in the evening, PLs may not take classes or hold second jobs while they are employed by NEXUS for the summer program.

PLs are required to travel and navigate a college/school campus with or without accommodations. This may include traversing some long distances across campus. Some lifting and moving may be required.
